Ayrshire & Wigtownshire Campaigns

At the 2026 AGM, members agreed on the following campaigning targets. They are as follows:

Target 1. Increase the number of beer scores logged by our branch members on camra.org.uk.

Why support this target?

  • CAMRA branches propose pubs to be entered into The Good Beer Guide based on their beer
  • The more scores a pub gets, the more accurate our measure of its quality and consistency becomes.
  • Pubs receive feedback on their scores, so your efforts to score are valued by the

What can members do to support this target?

  • Visit camra.org.uk/pubs, search for the pub, and enter a beer score.
  • Keep the page open in your smartphone’s browser; it only takes 20 seconds to score a beer.
  • If you score a beer whilst in the pub, press the “Pubs nearby” button and it will take you straight to the pubs listing. If that particular beer has been scored recently, it may even pop up as a suggestion to score.
  • Getting involved and scoring your beers means that the best pubs within our branch get credited with an entry in The Good Beer Guide.
  • Beer scoring is only applicable for real ale. Real cider and keg beer cannot be scored.
  • We particularly welcome scores for Arran and Wigtownshire.

Beer scoring competition and prize:

  • To support interest in this target, and visiting pubs out with your normal locals, a prize will be awarded to the A&W branch member who scores beers in the most branch pubs.
  • Whilst you are encouraged to score every beer you drink, the winning branch member will be the person who scored beer in the greatest number of pubs.
  • At today’s count, there is a potential maximum of 49 pubs to visit and score within our
  • The competition will run from the day of our AGM, Sunday, 29 March 2026, to Sunday, 7 March 2027.
  • If 2 of more members have scored the same number of pubs, then the winner will be the member who submitted the most beer scores within the period 29 March 2026 to 7 March 2027
  • The prize will be a 5L mini cask of real

Target 2. Retain and increase CAMRA membership within our branch.

Why support this target?

  • Sadly, CAMRA membership is on the decline. We are still one of Europe’s largest consumer groups, but over the last 5 years, our membership has reduced from 161,600 to 141,900.
  • Our own branch mirrors these stats, and despite gaining a respectable 48 new members at ARAF 2025 (24 of these for the A&W branch), we have lost more than 60 since last year’s AGM
  • Our current branch membership stands at 554
  • This drop in membership is impacting CAMRA’s finances and the events, publications, and campaigning that CAMRA HQ supports.

What can members do to support this target?

  • Canvas for new members, highlighting membership of £8.50 concession for 18-25-year-olds.
  • Gift a CAMRA membership to a friend or family member
  • Single membership = £34. Joint = £42.
  • All members receive £30 of real ale, cider and perry vouchers per
  • All members receive additional member benefits and
  • All members get free entry to CAMRA beer

Target 3. Encourage younger people to attend CAMRA supported events.

This target has been rolled over from last year.

Why support this target?

  • We realise we’re not attracting any young active members, so let’s reach further and focus on getting young people interested in trying ale and joining CAMRA.
  • We need young members with a fresh perspective to support the branch and our events going.

How can members support this target?

  • Invite a friend or family member to a CAMRA event.
  • We all know members who need a little push to get them involved. Put your arm around them and invite them along.
  • Encourage other members to get involved with the ABC Festival. Either by volunteering to work at the festival and/or joining the organising team. Without new volunteers, the future of the ABC Festival is at risk.
  • Canvas for new members highlighting membership concession for 18 to 25-year-olds at £25.50 per year. All members receive £30 of real ale, cider and perry vouchers per year.
